Speak My Language 聽我說吧

By Yarrow Intergenerational Society for Justice

Speak My Language is an intergenerational storytelling project for and by low-income Chinese seniors. Created through collaborations between youth and seniors, this project is a collection of five radio documentaries highlighting the experiences of Chinese elders facing barriers to access in the British Columbia healthcare system.
Speak My Language「聽我說吧」是一個代際參與的故事項目。該項目包括五部由青年與長者共同製作的系列聲音紀錄片,重點圍繞低收入華人長者在使用卑詩省醫療系統中遇到的語言障礙和文化差異。

Celebrating Our Stories

Celebrating Our Stories

Back in March, we held a launch event for the release of Speak My Language. It was a chance to celebrate the accomplishments and stories of the Chinese seniors and youth producers with the broader Vancouver community.

In this bonus episode, you'll be hearing speeches from former coordinator of Yarrow Society Yulanda Lui, MP Jenny Kwan, and project coordinator Rachel Lau. The youth producers then share some insights about their production process and we end with a group panel featuring the producers and a Chinese senior.

We hope this recording of the launch event will bring you the warmth of community in a time of isolation.

Stay safe and take care. 多謝!
